What makes La
Taperia de la Abuela so special:
The
food: You don't
have to look far to find the reason for the high
quality of the food. The family that owns this
restaurant also owns the company that supplies
the top restaurants with the typical products of
southern Spain: dry ham, wild boar, rosemary
cheese, etc. They send their best entries to this
tapas bar. Besides, two members of this family
are professional cooks!

| The location:
Strategically positioned among the three main
squares (plazas) of old Madrid Plaza
Mayor is the square that was built as the symbol of
the new capital. Plaza Paja was the living
place of Madrid's aristocracy in the Middle Ages.
Plaza de la Villa, made of three palaces, is the
current location of the local government offices.
| The stones used for cooking Carne a la piedra require
pre- heating. You can make your reservations

The terrace: One of the most agreeable in
Madrid, free of cars and with views to the
Anglona Palace and San Pedro tower, it is the second
oldest Mudejar (Arab style tower) in Madrid. |
| As La Taperia is not a tourist
bar, you may not find an English-speaking waiter, so I asked Andre to provide an English translation of the menu.
Print out a copy of the menu and take it with
you. You should be able to get the meal you
desire by just pointing to its Spanish name. |
 |
Safety: Since this place is
off the beaten path, not many tourists get here, which
means virtually no pickpockets or any other kind of
scoundrel that in every city preys on tourists.
