| If you are taking a taxi from the airport to the center of Madrid, you will likely past through the roundabout at Plaza de la Independencia. |
In the center of the plaza sits
the impressive Puerta de Alcalá. This large
granite structure used to be a main entrance gate
to Madrid from the city of Alcalá de Henares. Dating from the 18th century, the Puerta de Alcalá was built by order of Carlos III.
