The Old and
New Cathedral of Salamanca
|
.
|

Above
photo - The New Cathedral was built
attached to the old cathedral.
Much of
the cathedral is covered in
elaborate carvings.
Entering through the
north gate of the "New"
Cathedral (off the Plaza de Anaya),
you cannot help but notice the
miniature carvings that run in
long stripes on the facade. We
spied carvings of bulls,
gargoyles, rabbits, pigs, an
astronaut.
. What? An
astronaut on the facade of a 16th
century church? |

| Cathedrals require
constant maintenance and restorations,
and even today, new construction goes on.
